Cherry is undercover with a low-level Mafia head - her means of getting access to some of the top dogs - when their sexual romp does him in. The poor guy (lucky guy?) has a heart attack during an encounter. This could blow the whole operation if she can't get close to men in charge! No worries, she'll travel alone as claim the man sent her to operate on his behalf. The only trouble will be if they discover he's dead.
The late 1960's/early 1970's were rife with soft core porn adventure fiction - generally referred to as 'sleaze' today. And the fame of the James Bond thrillers had every writing hack producing Bond-esque heroes and heroines working for organizations with ridiculous acronyms.
I've read a couple of these types of books now and this one was pretty much right in the middle in regards to writing, plot, and sex. There's just barely enough plot to hold this story together, and just barely enough descriptive sex to get through the threadbare plot. There are plenty of story holes but honestly, no one's reading this to be on the edge of their seats with anticipation on how the protagonist will get out of their predicament.
Glen Chase (the author) is a pseudonym for Gardner F. Fox, a prolific author of what I affectionately consider second-rate pulp. Some of us still love this kind of writing - cheesy as it is.
I may or may not read more in the Cherry Delight series. There are a lot of books from this era that I want to read still and this wasn't so great that I'd push the next book to the top of my TBR pile.
